## Checked baggage

**Weight (standard limit per piece)**

- On most routes the weight concept applies: Economy Special 20 kg, Saver 25 kg, Flex 30 kg and Flex Plus 35 kg; Premium Economy 35 kg, Business 40 kg and First 50 kg.
- The piece concept applies to the Americas and Africa: Economy receives one or two 23 kg pieces depending on fare and sub-route, Premium Economy two 23 kg pieces, and Business or First two 32 kg pieces.
- No individual bag may exceed 32 kg.
- Under the weight concept, each bag may total up to 203 cm.
- Under the piece concept, 150–203 cm incurs an oversize charge and anything above 203 cm must travel as cargo.

## Overweight & excess baggage

- Under the weight concept, airport rates range from USD 15 to 50 per additional kilogram by region; advance purchases in 5 kg blocks up to 50 kg can save 50–60% and are available on eligible routes until four hours before departure.
- Under the piece concept, airport prices range from USD 100 to 300 by route and up to five additional pieces may be bought in advance with a 35–50% discount.
- For Americas/Africa piece routes, the current charge is USD 75 for overweight, USD 175 for oversize, or USD 250 for both; Canada uses separate CAD rates.
- If more than 15 pieces are checked, Emirates may carry some on a later flight.

## Liquids in carry-on

Varies

- For airports applying the standard rule, liquids, aerosols and gels must be in containers no larger than 100 ml and fit into one transparent resealable one-litre bag per passenger; a larger container is rejected even when partly filled.
- Medication, baby milk or food and special dietary liquids may be exempt, subject to screening.
- On journeys to, from or through the US and from or through Australia or New Zealand, powders in containers of 350 ml or more belong in checked baggage, with stated exemptions.
- Transit duty-free liquids require an accepted sealed tamper-evident bag and receipt; airport and route rules can differ.

## Pets

### Pet transport

Allowed

Pets are not accepted in the cabin except falcons between Dubai and certain destinations in Pakistan; depending on the circumstances, other pets travel as checked baggage in the hold or as cargo.

- Checked-animal charges are USD 500, 650 or 800 according to the combined animal-and-cage weight and size, while a cage over 300 cm in total dimensions requires manifested cargo.
- Required permits, tests or vaccinations must be completed first, and the finished paperwork should reach Emirates at least one week before the flight.

## Special baggage

### Sports equipment

Allowed

Sports equipment such as golf gear, skis, bicycles, surfboards and kayaks is accepted as checked baggage within the standard allowance; excess rates apply above the ticketed weight or piece count.

- Under both weight and piece concepts, the equipment may total no more than 300 cm; larger items must travel as cargo or freight.
- Emirates asks for at least 24 hours' notice for a checked bicycle, and special packing rules apply.
- Equipment on an itinerary operated partly by another airline can follow different rules.

### Musical instruments

Allowed

Emirates provides no separate free allowance for musical instruments.

More details

- An instrument can travel as normal checked baggage, as carry-on within the passenger's cabin size and weight allowance, or on a paid seat in the cabin.
- Normal excess charges apply when a checked instrument exceeds the ticketed allowance.
- Emirates notes that additional conditions and limitations may apply and asks passengers to contact the airline for the specific instrument.

### Medical equipment

Allowed

PAP and CPAP equipment may travel in the cabin without a MEDIF and does not count toward the baggage limit; bring enough charged batteries because in-seat power varies by aircraft and is not guaranteed throughout the flight.

- An approved POC needs a physician's statement, while Emirates-supplied therapeutic oxygen requires a MEDIF at least 48 hours ahead.
- A portable dialysis machine may travel in the cabin if it fits but cannot be used there; otherwise one machine and its equipment may be checked free.

## Prohibited items in the cabin

- Hoverboards, smart balance wheels, mini-Segways, and motorized rideable scooters — banned in both cabin and hold, even with batteries removed
- Smart bags with non-removable batteries — banned in both cabin and hold
- Power banks: one per passenger, cabin only, maximum 100 Wh; use or charging on board is prohibited and overhead stowage is not allowed
- Spare lithium batteries: carry-on only, max 20 per passenger, individually protected against short-circuiting
- Explosives and incendiary substances — Christmas crackers, fireworks, detonators, dynamite, replica explosive devices
- Disabling devices (mace, pepper spray, tear gas) and electroshock weapons (tasers) — completely forbidden
- Drones: not allowed in cabin; checked baggage only; banned on flights to Jordan
- Laser pointers prohibited on all Emirates aircraft

- Spare batteries are cabin-only, individually protected and normally limited to 20 per passenger; spares above 100 Wh and up to 160 Wh require approval and are limited to two.
- Smart bags with a non-removable battery are refused, while a removable battery must be taken out before the bag is checked.
- Sharp objects and blunt instruments are restricted from the cabin.
- Dry ice up to 2.5 kg requires approval.
- Destination customs and security rules can add further restrictions, so the current Emirates dangerous-goods table applies.
